Let me guess, you’ll organize tomorrow, right? Same here, and I actually was planning to go all out, build wooden dividers…the whole 9 yards. Sure glad I was waiting ’till tomorrow! There’s a real nifty product called Tool Foam. It’s made by Creative Safety Supply and it’s so easy to use, it’s a crime to have an unruly toolbox!
I’m ashamed of this, but until recently this is what the drawers of my work bench looked like…
But now, I’m proud to show off my drawers…Errr, the drawers in my workbench. As you can see, there’s a huge improvement!
So how do you go from mell of a hess to nice ‘n tidy? Pretty easy actually. First cut the blue and yellow foam to the proper size for your drawer.
Then layout the items in whatever way is most sensible and best utilizes the space.
Now onto tracing everything. For some tools you only need to cut out a portion of the foam. If you think ahead a little you won’t end up with extra sharpie all over the place. I didn’t think ahead enough on the first drawer of tools… Sad I know.
You can probably guess what’s next but I’ll go ahead and ruin the suspense anyways. Now simply cut the outlined areas, peel the paper off the backside of the blue foam, and stick it to the yellow sheet! Wanna know something awesome? A razor blade comes with the kit!
Yes, that looks like it has lots of potential. Now the moment of truth… Put all your tools in place, take a step back, and admire!
I was honestly a little hesitant at first about cutting all these shapes out with a razor blade, but the tool foam cuts surprisingly well. It’s a dense material, but cuts easily without stretching or tearing during the cut. I’ll be using this product throughout the rest of my shop to make organization a painless task.
Tool Foam gets two thumbs up and I’d definitely recommend it!
Full Disclosure: This product was provided by Creative Safety Supply for my unbiased use and review. If I wouldn’t buy or use this product, I’d tell you. Rest assured, Tool Foam is a great product and you won’t regret purchasing it!
